Submission Instructions
Before beginning the submission process, ensure you have read and complied with the Guidelines for Authors. We recommend carefully reviewing the checklist below to ensure your article meets the required standards and to avoid potential rejections. Please note that all submissions must be made through the journal's platform, the Open Journal Systems (OJS). If you have not yet registered, please register [here]. Then, log in with your username and start the submission process. The system will guide you through the entire process.
Checklist for article preparation and submission
1. Article Scope: The article is expected to align with the journal's scope and address topics related to Healthcare Professions. This may include aspects such as speech, voice, hearing, language, physiotherapy, sports science, sports therapy, rehabilitation, among other related fields.
2. Language: The article must be submitted in English.
3. Article Type: The article submitted to the journal must be classified as one of the following types: research article or systematic review or meta-analysis article. Please refer to the specific characteristics of each article type here to ensure accurate and appropriate classification.
4. Format: Manuscript files must be in one of the following formats: DOC, DOCX, or RTF. Microsoft Word documents should not be locked or protected.
5. Length: The research article should contain a minimum of 25 references and not exceed 5000 words from the introduction to the conclusions. On the other hand, the systematic review or meta-analysis article should contain a minimum of 50 references and not exceed 6000 words from the introduction to the conclusions.
6. Font: Please use one of the following fonts: Times New Roman, Arial, or Calibri, all sized at 12 points. Avoid using the 'Symbol' font. To insert symbols in the manuscript, use the 'Insert → Symbol' function in your word processor or paste the corresponding Unicode character.
7. Headings: Limit manuscript sections and subsections to 3 heading levels. Make sure that the heading levels are clearly indicated in the text of the manuscript.
8. Design and Spacing: The text should have 1.5 line spacing and should not be formatted in columns.
9. Footnotes: Footnotes are not allowed. If your manuscript contains footnotes, please move the information to the main text or the reference list, as appropriate.
10. Abbreviations: Define abbreviations the first time they appear in the text. Do not use non-standard abbreviations unless they appear at least three times in the text. Aim to keep the use of abbreviations to a minimum.
11. Title Page: It should be reviewed and professionally adjusted to ensure a clear and accurate presentation of information. This includes the title of the article, abbreviated title, authors' names with their ORCID identifiers, affiliations, declarations of interest, statement of responsibility, funding information, acknowledgments, word count, and the number of figures and tables in the article. 12. Abstract and keywords: The abstract should follow the following structure: introduction/objective, method, results, and conclusion. Additionally, include 10 keywords recognized by MeSH or DeCS thesauri. For further guidance on abstract writing and keyword selection, please review the recommendations available here.
13. Body and Structure of the Article: The article should follow the following structure: introduction, methods, results, discussion, conclusions, and references. Please adhere to the detailed instructions for the article structure provided here.
14. Figures, Tables, and Equations: All figures, tables, and equations must be clearly numbered and formatted according to the guidelines provided by the journal. Please refer to the specific guidelines here to ensure their proper presentation.
15. Citations: Citations should be presented using Arabic numerals, consecutively and ascending, enclosed in square brackets. Below are examples for different cases: a single citation is represented as [1]; two consecutive citations as [1,2]; for more than two consecutive citations, use [1-7]; in the case of non-consecutive citations, write [1,3,5,7]; and for a combination of consecutive and non-consecutive citations, use [1-3,5,7].
16. References: RIICS uses the 'Vancouver' style for citations and references. Please refer to the sample references provided by the ICMJE for more details on this style. Receive further instructions on references here.
17. Supplements: Please provide any additional material necessary to support and complement the article, such as appendices, raw data, supplementary materials, source code, complete datasets, among others. Ensure that the supplements are relevant and provide significant added value to the article.
18. Translation: The title, abstract and keywords must be professionally translated into Spanish.
19. Required documents for submission: The author must attach the following files with his/her submission, please make sure to provide the documents completely and properly to ensure an efficient and accurate review by our editors:
19.1. Article: The main document containing the content of the study or research. Download a sample document here that includes all the expected sections of an article intended for submission to RIICS.
19.2. Cover letter: Download the cover letter template [here] for your submission.
19.3. Conflict of interest statement: Each author must provide their conflict of interest statement separately. Download the template [here].
19.4. Research approval document: Required when the study involves humans or animals. Please provide the document issued by the ethics committee or equivalent body.
19.5. Informed consent for publication: In case the article contains data, photographs, or other material identifying the study participants, please attach the informed consent for publication [download model].
19.6. Image files: If the article includes illustrations, photographs, graphics, or other images, please ensure to submit each one in separate files in high-resolution formats such as jpg, png, or tif.
20. Proofreading of manuscripts: Authors are encouraged to proofread the language and make style corrections by a professional before submitting the manuscript to the journal. RIICS does not edit manuscripts prior to publication. Manuscripts that do not meet the language standards may be rejected.
